Hate Mail from America
I never before have bothered to respond to the "fashionable" tastelessness of Callahan's cartoons, but my disgust meter shot off the scale when I saw the recent cartoon. The cartoon depicts a farm boy (Timmy?) and an older man looking over a rail fence. The boy asks the man, "Gee, Gramps, how long's it been since Lassie went over to visit the Wongs."
Can it be that Callahan and the Willamette Week think there is a joke in the idea that a Chinese family would eat another family's pet? I figured I must have missed something. I showed the joke to several friends and co-workers. They each saw what I saw. They each recoiled with loathing.
